New Music to get you through Lockdown

Music can cure all ills but for some reason, I’ve been craving a lot of the old classic jams of my teens. Cue Black Eyed Peas and One Direction.

I’m usually a music lover and over the past year, I’ve felt that slowly drain from my soul (thanks Oxford for having a shit music scene). So here are a few new things that I’ve been listening to and enjoying.

Hinds – The Prettiest Curse

¡Te quiero, Hinds! Yo he sido practicar mi español y este un momento perfecto porque mi grupo español favorita es Hinds. Despite several COVID related delays and cancellations, The Prettiest Curse is finally out. As a Hinds fan, this album feels like a natural progression of sass and sun from this quartet. Absolute verano vibes with tunes Waiting For You and Riding SoloCome Back and Love Me ❤ is my current fave because I am in desperate need of a hug.

Orlando Weekes – A Quickening

This album is like a soothing balm during the chaotic fiery hell of quarantine. No, this is not an overly dramatic assessment. It’s almost choral in its arrangement with soft tones and gentle layers that wrap around you. Milk Breath has been on repeat recently, it’s a sentimental ode to Weekes’ son that has had me choke up (and want a baby to snuggle).

Chloe x Halle – Ungodly Hour

I didn’t know that I was really craving the soft R&B beats of Chloe x Halle’s album until I listened to it (literally yesterday). I know I’ve been living in a hole and I’m probably the last person to find out about their YouTube and Beyoncé endorsed fame, but here we are.

Tipsy is one of my favourites with some seriously strong My Sister The Serial Killer inspired lyrics.

Bonus! Two Door Cinema Club – Lost Songs (Found) EP

This EP takes me back to my teens when I thought I was edgy (I wasn’t) for liking Two Door Cinema Club. I’ve probably seen them over 5 times at this point so the nostalgia of this EP is strong. It’s strangely reassuring to look back at the jaunty innocent songs of baby TDCC; I hope I look back on this poorly written blog with the same memories.
